Even before its release, the movie’s business deals are becoming a hot topic in Bollywood circles. The film is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is planned as a two-part epic project.
Producer Namit Malhotra recently revealed in interviews that both parts of the movie together are being made with a huge budget of around Rs 4000 crore. This news itself shocked many movie lovers and trade experts. Now, reports about the theatrical business are grabbing even more attention.
According to Bollywood trade reports, the makers are expecting around Rs 400 to 450 crore only for the Hindi theatrical rights of the film. This is considered a massive amount in Indian cinema history. Industry experts say that even the upcoming King starring Shah Rukh Khan is said to have theatrical deals close to Rs 250 crore. Compared to that, the rates being quoted for Ramayana are almost double.
Popular distribution companies like Pen Studios are reportedly in discussions for the rights. However, some buyers believe the final deal may close around Rs 300 crore instead of the expected Rs 450 crore. Still, the producers seem very confident about the film’s market value.
The movie also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita. Recently, her film Ek Din reportedly failed at the box office. Fans are now hoping Ramayana will become a huge comeback film for her career.
Earlier, the teaser of Ramayana received mixed reactions from audiences. Because of that, the makers became more careful about promotions. Interestingly, they did not even release a special poster on Sai Pallavi’s birthday.
At present, everyone is waiting for the trailer of the film. Reports say the trailer may release during the Dasara festival season in October. With such huge expectations and record business talks, Ramayana has already become one of the most discussed Indian movies.
