Hollywood horror films usually explode on Day 1 and collapse from Day 2. But the latest horror sensation at the Hollywood box office, Obsession, is doing exactly the opposite. That is why the entire box office world is now discussing this tiny film like a phenomenon.

Made on a shockingly low budget of under $1 million (around ₹8.5 crore), the film has already grossed $74 million worldwide, which is nearly ₹630 crores globally. In North America alone, it collected $58.5 million, which roughly translates to ₹500 crore. Now in its second weekend, the film is still pulling off miracles.

Usually horror films crash heavily after opening weekend because audiences rush in early and word-of-mouth dies quickly. But Obsession jumped nearly 30% higher in weekend two, collecting $22 million (around ₹187 crore) from North America alone. The film’s success is now being compared to modern horror sensations like Barbarian, Talk To Me, Longlegs and M3GAN. Obsession’s success proved that younger audiences are desperately craving for fresh horror experiences inside theatres.

Many Indian audiences are now openly saying this is the kind of original content theatres desperately need instead of repetitive franchise films and formula mass entertainers. At a time when many big-budget films are struggling to pull crowds into theatres, Obsession is proving one thing very clearly. If the content emotionally connects with Gen-Z audiences, even an ₹8 crore film can shake the global box office like a monster blockbuster.
