The intense wildfires in Los Angeles have caused the 2025 Oscar nominations to be delayed. The Oscar nominee voting period, which started on January 8th, has been extended from January 12th to January 14th, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This decision was made at a time when the ongoing crisis in Southern California was having an impact on many people in the film business.

The nominees will now be announced on January 19, instead of January 17, as originally planned. CEO Bill Kramer sent an email to Academy members expressing his sympathies for those affected by the fires, which have resulted in a great deal of damage and fatalities in the region. Nearly 1,000 buildings have been burned by the wildfires, which have forced thousands of inhabitants to evacuate.

Other Oscar-related events have also been impacted, in addition to the modifications to the nomination timetable. Because of safety concerns about the flames, the International Feature Shortlist Screening and several bake-offs for different categories have been delayed or postponed.

In spite of these difficult conditions, the Academy is dedicated to making sure that every member may take part in the voting process. March 2, 2025, is still the date of the 97th Academy Awards ceremony.
