Back in the day, there was this popular tradition where leading OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon prime used to pay huge amounts of money to producers for their films. This was primarily during the Covid era where the OTT market absolutely bombarded the Indian entertainment industry.

However, the OTT markets have gone down significantly in the recent days due to the prevailing situation in the entertainment field. It has now reached a point where leading platforms like Netflix and Amazon are negotiating the OTT deals even after the theatrical release.

In the case of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life which released in theatres. Recently, the OTT partner of the film Netflix is reportedly renegotiating the OTT deal after the disastrous performance of the film in theatres.

Reportedly Netflix is negotiating to slash out 30% payout price to the makers. This is primarily due to the fact that the film was an epic disaster at the box office, and it is not likely to generate any interest amongst the OTT audience either. The makers might be left with no other option, but to take the pay cut that is given by Netflix.

If this tradition slowly move on to Tollywood, then we can expect Telugu film makers also to sustain huge losses if they make bad films.

As of today, the Telugu film makers are reportedly, commanding the highest amount of interest and financial lucrative from the OTT platforms due to the consistent success. But considering the new trend where Netflix is renegotiating the deals, even after the theatrical release, things are not looking very promising now.
