Three Heroines Save Face After Janhvi Effect

Back in the first week of June, when the film Peddi released, many thought that the Ram Charan starrer would take India by a storm. Though it took the Telugu box office by a storm, the film took India by a storm for another reason. Most of the Hindi media, which encourages the bikini acts of heroines playing patriotic characters on the screen, have found fault with Janhvi’s glamour treat and director Buchi Babu Sana’s vision. That became a major controversy.

Guess what, when the whole of Tollywood got massively trolled for giving only glamour-centric roles to female stars, the whole industry had to face a lot of music from so-called feminists. And then, Tollywood followed up Peddi’s Janhvi role with powerful female-centric roles like Samantha in Maa Inti Bangaram, Bhagyashree Bhorse in Lenin and Sai Gouripriya Reddy in Chennai Love Story. That stunned everyone for sure.

Well, in Telugu films, usually there are both glamour roles as well as well-defined author-backed roles too, but they don’t necessarily come up at the same time. Sometimes glamorous roles take centre stage, and sometimes these well-defined characters. Most of the successful heroines like Samantha then or Bhagyashree now are balancing both. Anyway, three heroines are likely saving Tollywood’s face after Janhvi’s controversy.
