Raja Saab Fiasco: A Learning Lesson For Prabhas!

Pan India superstar Prabhas had a big release in the form of Raja Saab this Sankranti season, but the film turned out to be a disaster of epic proportion. This decision to experiment with Maruti has backfired very badly for Prabhas.

The film has nearly completed its run in theatres, and it could perhaps be categorised as a proper learning lesson to Prabhas when it comes to choosing directors and scripts in the future.

Despite huge pre release expectations and the presence of pan India star Prabhas, The Raja Saab has clearly ended its theatrical run as a box office flop.

The film’s worldwide closing collection remained below Rs 200 crore, a figure considered disappointing given its high production cost, wide release and aggressive promotions. Trade circles had expected the film to comfortably cross this mark, but weak content and inconsistent storytelling worked against it.

After a decent initial opening driven mainly by fan support and holiday advantage, collections witnessed a sharp decline from the first week itself. Poor word of mouth and mixed to negative audience feedback further dented its prospects, leading to low occupancies across major markets. Even in traditionally strong territories, the film failed to sustain momentum.

For a star of Prabhas’s stature, whose earlier films set much higher benchmarks, The Raja Saab falls well short of commercial success. Reports suggest distributors are likely to face losses, even after accounting for non theatrical revenue streams. In trade terms, the film is now being labelled an outright flop, adding another underperformer to Prabhas’s recent box office record rather than a comeback success.
