Even after 20 years, people still hum its songs and talk about the story. Its dubbed versions reached all over India and made quite an impact outside the Telugu states too. Clearly, some films don’t just release, they linger.
This Diwali, another film, Dude, is making noise. Even though it’s dubbed, Telugu audiences are excited, thanks to its songs and promos. At a pre-release event in Hyderabad, director Keerthiswaran, making his debut, spoke about how Arya influenced him. “I love Arya. It gave me the idea for Dude,” he said. You could tell it’s not just flattery, some classics really do leave a mark.
Keerthiswaran also shared how he got into Telugu cinema. Born and raised in Chennai, his first offer came from Mythri Movie Makers. He had worked with Sudha Kongara and connected through his cinematographer friend Niketh Bommi. “Mythri approved my script in just one narration. Big films, sure, but they also back new directors. That’s rare,” he added. You can sense the excitement in his words; it’s the kind of honesty you don’t always hear in these events.
Dude stars Tamil actor Pradeep Ranganathan, who Telugu audiences already know from Love Today and Dragon. With Sai Abhyankkar’s music and Mythri Movie Makers behind it, the film seems set to mix new ideas with a dash of classic inspiration. As October 17 approaches, fans are curious to see if the Arya magic has rubbed off here. Sometimes old films don’t just stay in memory, they quietly shape what comes next.
