Actors' Craziest Pre-Release Statements That Turned Into Memes
For Radhe Shyam, the climax was compared to Titanic. Sadly, after release, that statement “sank” faster than expected.
By: Priya Chowdhary Nuthalapti | 21 Feb 2026 4:00 AM ISTIn recent years, pre-release events have become bigger than the movies themselves. At these events, actors, directors, and producers often make bold statements to create hype. These pre-release dialogues push audience expectations to the sky even before the film reaches theatres. However, once the movie is released, many of these statements turn into jokes and memes on social media.
This trend is seen across Bollywood, Tollywood, and Kollywood. What is meant to excite fans sometimes ends up entertaining them in a very different way.
One of the most talked-about examples came from Adipurush. Before release, the director emotionally requested audiences to leave one seat empty in theatres for Hanuman ji. The statement went viral instantly. But after the film’s release, the same dialogue became a major trolling point online.
Another big claim was made for Thugs of Hindustan, which was promoted as Bollywood’s answer to Pirates of the Caribbean. Expectations became huge, but the film failed to impress audiences, making the comparison a laughing matter later.
In Tamil cinema, the hype around Kanguva also crossed limits. Before release, it was claimed that the film would become the first Tamil movie to collect 1100 crores. After release, box office reality turned those claims into instant memes.
Laal Singh Chaddha was described as a better film than Rang De Basanti and the best drama of the last 15 years. Such praise raised expectations too high, but audience response did not match the hype.
For Radhe Shyam, the climax was compared to Titanic. Sadly, after release, that statement “sank” faster than expected.
The film Himmatwala was promoted with claims that tickets would be impossible to get for weeks. After a decent opening, the movie quickly disappeared from theatres.
Veteran actor Kamal Haasan once said Thug Life would be greater than Nayakan. Comparing any film to a cult classic proved to be a risky move.
Similarly, Sikandar was called better than Ghajini, but it failed badly. Even War 2, starring Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan, was described as one of the greatest films of the era before release, only to disappoint later.
