She is now set to return with Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol. However, her comeback has been overshadowed by shocking allegations regarding an ₹18 crore loan write-off, which she has firmly denied.
The controversy erupted after a Moneylife report exposed financial irregularities within New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. The investigation revealed that corporate loans of up to ₹25 crore were approved without proper oversight, leading to mismanagement and eventual non-performing assets (NPAs). Amidst these findings, reports surfaced that an ₹18 crore loan allegedly taken by Preity Zinta was “written off” without following standard recovery protocols, raising questions about the bank’s dealings.
Addressing the allegations, Preity Zinta issued a strong denial through her legal team, clarifying that she had an overdraft facility with the bank over 12 years ago but had fully repaid the amount more than a decade ago. She emphasized that the account had been settled and closed long before these accusations surfaced.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Preity further slammed the misinformation, stating, “No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news and indulging in vile gossip. For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK - over 10 years ago.” With her firm response, she hopes to put an end to the controversy and prevent any further misunderstandings.
