Puri Jagannadh Tries a New Route After a Long Struggle

Director Puri Jagannadh is one of the popular filmmakers in Telugu cinema. He created a special style with films like Badri, Idiot, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Pokiri, Desamuduru, Chirutha and many others. His films once had a strong connection with the audience.

However, things changed in the second half of his career. After Temper, Puri struggled to repeat his earlier success. iSmart Shankar became a hit, but his next films, Liger and Double iSmart, did not perform well at the box office.

Now, Puri appears to be changing his strategy once again. The director is trying to explore a more emotional subject with his upcoming film Slum Dog. The movie has already been completed, but its release has been delayed for various reasons. There has also been very little information about the film for a long time.

Recently, Puri Jagannadh released a new promo from Slum Dog. The video features veteran Bollywood actress Zarina Wahab, who plays an elderly woman. Her character goes through a painful situation and finally becomes a beggar to survive.

The promo has received attention mainly because of its emotional content. The scene where the elderly woman stretches her hands to beg creates a strong impact. Puri's voice-over at the end also adds more emotion to the video.

The new approach from Puri comes at a time when several experienced directors are trying to move away from the styles that made them popular in the past. Simply repeating the same kind of stories may not always work with today's audience.

Director Venky Atluri, who was earlier known mainly for love stories, also explored different subjects in his recent films. Sekhar Kammula, who built his image with class-oriented and emotional movies, has also been trying different concepts and larger-scale stories.

Puri Jagannadh now seems to be following a similar path. Instead of depending only on his old style of commercial cinema, he appears to be looking at stronger emotions and new subjects.
