Puri Curing Old Wounds To Bring Slumdog Out
Puri Jagannadh is coming up with Slumdog: 33 Temple Road, which has Tamil superstar Vijay Sethupathi in the lead.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 17 April 2026 5:09 PM ISTAfter back-to-back setbacks with Liger and Double iSmart, Puri Jagannadh is coming up with Slumdog: 33 Temple Road, which has Tamil superstar Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. While the Shoot of the film is done, hero Vijay Sethupathi has already moved on to his next film. Over the last couple of days, we’ve already seen talk about why the film is not getting discussed anywhere, despite it being wrapped and ready. While a pending OTT deal, or read like, unsold OTT rights, is the main reason for the holding back of release, here comes another reason.
Reports are coming that Puri is currently dealing with financial disputes related to both Liger and Double iSmart. Some of these issues are still under discussion in the Telugu Film Chamber. In fact, a few exhibitors from Telangana have also raised concerns, and talks are ongoing to settle the issues, which is nothing but giving back some of the losses to the distributors. Before announcing anything about Slumdog, Puri is keen on curing these old wounds, as some of these distributors are forming hurdles for the release date.
Because in today’s scenario, unresolved financial issues don’t just stay in the background, but they directly impact business equations, including the yet-to-be-locked OTT deals. We hear that Charmme Kaur is reportedly in talks with digital platforms, trying to lock the deal. But without clarity on the pending disputes, things are not moving as smoothly as expected.
On the film side, with Vijay Sethupathi leading, and actors like Tabu, Duniya Vijay, and Samyuktha playing key roles, “Slumdog” is being positioned as a more rooted, realistic attempt from Puri Jagan. As the director has disappointed many times in recent times, surely no one is able to come to a conclusion on the film until they see it.
