By: Shanaz B Syed | 7 Aug 2025 2:07 PM ISTThe National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious note of the stampede that happened at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere of Pushpa 2. One woman, Revathi, died in the chaos, and several others were injured. After reviewing the police department’s report, the NHRC said it wasn’t satisfied with the explanation.
The commission pointed out that the police failed to control the crowd, even though they knew a large number of people would attend. They blamed the lack of proper planning and security arrangements. According to the NHRC, the police department could’ve avoided the tragedy with better preparation.
In response, the NHRC has sent showcause notices to the Telangana Chief Secretary and the Hyderabad Police Commissioner. They’ve been asked why compensation of Rs 5 lakh shouldn’t be paid to Revathi’s family and why strict action shouldn’t be taken for the failure in crowd control.
The NHRC has asked the Police Commissioner to carry out an independent investigation and submit a full report within six weeks. This move signals that lapses in public safety, especially during high-profile events like movie premieres, will not be ignored.
The incident left Pushpa 2 star Allu Arjun deeply disturbed. He cancelled all celebrations and stayed in touch with the family of the woman who lost her life. Sources close to the actor say he was visibly upset and expressed regret over what happened. His father, producer Allu Aravind, stepped in to offer financial help to the grieving family.
