Raashi Khanna Speaks Up for Equal Pay and Gender-Neutral Art
"It's a validation for all female actors," Raashi said. "We can carry entire films, and we need filmmakers like Sundar C who believe in us. But more importantly, art and cinema shouldn't be defined by gender."
By: Tupaki Desk | 30 May 2024 7:58 AM GMTRaashi Khanna, fresh off the success of the Tamil horror-comedy "Aranmanai 4," is calling for a shift in perspective within the film industry. During a press meet in Mumbai for the film's Hindi release, Raashi emphasized the importance of judging art based on its merit, not the gender of the actors.
"Aranmanai 4," a female-led film that garnered critical acclaim and box office success down South, serves as a testament to the growing audience for women-centric narratives. Raashi, alongside her co-star Tamannaah Bhatia, celebrated this achievement.
"It's a validation for all female actors," Raashi said. "We can carry entire films, and we need filmmakers like Sundar C who believe in us. But more importantly, art and cinema shouldn't be defined by gender."
Raashi went on to advocate for equal pay in the industry. "It's time to treat art equally. Films like 'Article 15,' 'Crew,' and 'Aranmanai 4' prove that women actors are just as capable as men. We should be judged by the quality of the film, not by our gender. And that includes receiving fair compensation – there's a significant pay gap that needs to be addressed."
Directed by Sundar C, "Aranmanai 4" boasts a diverse cast, including Sundar himself, Santhosh Prathap, Ramachandra Raju, and veteran actors like Kovai Sarala and Delhi Ganesh. Produced by Khushbu Sundar under the Avni Cinemax banner, the Hindi version will hit theaters on May 31st.
Raashi has a promising slate of upcoming projects, including "The Sabarmati Report," "Telusu Kada," and "Methavi." With her talent and advocacy for fair treatment, Raashi Khanna is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in Indian cinema.
