By: Priya Chowdhary Nuthalapti | 24 Oct 2026 11:48 AM ISTRegional differences have become a major topic of discussion in the Telugu film industry. Movies are now being discussed based on their language and story as well as the hero's dialogues and the director's approach. Regional identity has also become an important factor in film discussions. This sometimes creates pressure on filmmakers and affects the way audiences look at movies.
Now director Rahul Sankrityan has spoken about an important issue related to regional identities in Telugu cinema. He has requested the Telugu film trade and media to stop using the terms Nizam and Ceded while discussing film business and box office collections.
Rahul Sankrityan made these comments at the Ranabaali event in Anantapur. He said that the film industry should use the names Telangana and Rayalaseema instead of Nizam and Ceded.
According to the director these old terms carry historical baggage. He believes that continuing to use them reminds people of a painful past. He has asked the media and film trade to use regional names that respect the identity of the people.
The terms Nizam and Ceded have been used in Telugu cinema for many years. They are commonly used while discussing theatrical distribution rights and box office collections. These terms have become part of the regular language used by distributors and trade experts. He also added that the time has come to change this practice. He wants the industry to recognise Telangana and Rayalaseema by their actual regional names.
Rahul Sankrityan's statement has started a fresh discussion about regional identities in Telugu cinema. Now it remains to be seen whether Telugu media and trade organisations will accept his request and start using Telangana and Rayalaseema instead of Nizam and Ceded. However along with this names, regional differences are also creating lot of impact on movies.
