From modest beginnings to massive sets, SS Rajamouli’s journey continues to be as inspiring as his films.
By: Tupaki Desk | 16 Jun 2025 6:57 PM ISTFrom modest beginnings to massive sets, SS Rajamouli’s journey continues to be as inspiring as his films. While the director is currently immersed in creating SSMB29 with Mahesh Babu, he recently revealed a nostalgic snippet from his early career that left many surprised.
Speaking at the pre-release event of Kubera, Rajamouli took the spotlight not just as a celebrated filmmaker but also as someone with humble roots. When anchor Suma playfully asked about his very first paycheck, Rajamouli didn’t hesitate. “My first salary was Rs. 50,” he recalled, “I earned it while working as an assistant editor.” It’s a far cry from the massive paychecks he commands today, but a reminder that legends are built one step at a time.
While the spotlight is now on SSMB29, the effort going into it is on another level. Recreating Varanasi in Hyderabad isn’t just a creative choice — it’s part of Rajamouli’s commitment to bringing scale and depth to each story, regardless of location.
With Kubera set to release on June 20, and SSMB29 shaping up to be another landmark project, Rajamouli’s focus stays the same: build worlds, not just movies. His work doesn’t shout for attention, it earns it.
