Ramayana Joins Dhurandhar, Let’s Wait For Varanasi

By: Shanaz B Syed | 2 April 2026 5:13 PM ISTBack then, when the likes of Sukumar tried a two-part film like Arya and Arya 2, two different films but with the same characters, the result was not so satisfying. However, Hollywood films like The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have this thing of telling the total story as a three-part or four-part movie. This is because those novels, on which the films are based, are also narrated in the same way.
And thanks to SS Rajamouli, that technique has reached India as well, with the “Baahubali” series scripting the history. Cut to the present updates, after Dhurandhar headed for a surprise two-part release, Ramayana has officially confirmed that Part 1 will release on Diwali 2026, and Part 2 will be aiming for Diwali 2027. Now it's for Varanasi to confirm if they are going to release the film in two parts or not. It’s Rajamouli who started this with the Baahubali movie, and we have to see if he will follow it or end it. Earlier, he clarified that there’s no such thing as two parts for this movie.
But with the kind of business these films achieve with two parts, and how the whole story could be narrated on a different level with two-part films, surely Rajamouli might have a second thought, is what many industry insiders are saying. Even the distributors and trade circles are feeling that with the likes of Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra aboard, surely Rajamouli must think about giving a larger entertainment to fans and movie lovers through two parts rather than one.
Currently, the first and only part of Varanasi is set for April 7, 2027, release, and the promotional materials are carrying the same date.
