Rajendra Prasad, once known for his perfect comic timing, is now getting more attention for what he says off-screen.

At a recent event in the US, his speech became a talking point again, not because it was inspiring, but because of the way he spoke about himself. What could have been a moment of light praise turned into something awkward, and this time, it caught international eyes.

He mentioned late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and claimed he used to watch his films "while in cases and suitcases," which made little sense. Comparing poet C Narayana Reddy to household items like a bed and lamp also felt odd. On top of that, he joked about being born in NTR’s house and made a passing comment on Sathya Sai Baba’s hair, which left many cringing.

This isn’t new for Rajendra Prasad. He’s made similar mistakes before, like the comments on Ali during SV Krishna Reddy’s birthday and another awkward moment involving cricketer David Warner. Though he later said sorry and promised not to repeat such things, he’s back in the same spot. With his experience, especially as a senior figure still getting roles, people expect more restraint.

There’s no denying he gave some great films to Telugu cinema. But talking like the industry wouldn’t have survived without him doesn’t sit well with many. He’s still respected, but speeches like this make it harder for fans to defend him. At this stage, sticking to the work and staying away from unnecessary comments would serve him better.
