Box Office: Coolie Crashes, Buyers Worried
After creating a storm at the box office with a record-breaking opening weekend, Coolie could not keep up the same momentum during the weekdays.
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 Aug 2025 10:22 AM ISTGreat things were expected when it was announced that superstar, Rajinikanth would be collaborating with Director Lokesh Kanagaraj for Coolie. But the film is now in a position where it is leaving buyers extremely anxious.
After creating a storm at the box office with a record-breaking opening weekend, Coolie could not keep up the same momentum during the weekdays. The film, which started with historic collections, faced a sharp drop in ticket sales from Monday onwards. This sudden fall has left distributors and trade circles shocked, as they expected the movie to maintain steady numbers for a longer period.
The only region where the film is still holding well is the North, where audiences are continuing to show interest. In other markets, however, the response has slowed down much faster than expected. Trade experts believe that the second weekend might provide some relief with an increase in collections, but it will not be enough to change the overall box office trend.
Reaching the break-even point, which would make the film profitable for buyers, now looks very difficult. In fact, even the big milestone of ₹500 crore worldwide collections seems far away, something that looked achievable after the strong weekend start.
Overall, while Coolie began with massive hype and record numbers, the drop in weekdays has raised serious concerns. The coming days will decide how much it can recover, but expectations have already fallen sharply.
