The future of Jailer 3 may depend on the success of director Nelson Dilipkumar's upcoming film with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Although the makers have already announced the third part of the Jailer franchise, the film is not expected to begin anytime soon. The current plans suggest that Nelson has some important work to complete before moving ahead with Jailer 3.
Nelson created a successful franchise with Jailer, which gave a major boost to Rajinikanth's career. Both Jailer films reportedly earned huge amounts for Sun Pictures. With the success of the franchise, expectations for the third part have also increased. Sun Pictures has reportedly given Nelson complete freedom regarding the budget, casting and other important decisions for Jailer 3.
However Nelson is known for taking considerable time to develop his scripts. He wants to make sure that the story and pre-production work are perfect before starting the shoot. The director is currently working on the basic idea for Jailer 3 and is expected to spend several months preparing the final script.
Before Jailer 3, Nelson will direct a big multi-starrer featuring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The project is expected to begin shooting next year. This film is very important for Nelson as it will bring two legendary actors together on the big screen.
If the Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan film becomes a hit then Nelson may get another big opportunity to work with Rajinikanth in Jailer 3. However if the multi-starrer fails to impress audiences then there could be questions about the director's next project with the Superstar. This does not mean that Jailer 3 will be cancelled but its future could depend on how the upcoming film performs.
As per current plans, Jailer 3 is expected to go on floors in 2028. Nelson is also committed to a film for Sithara Entertainments, which is expected to feature NTR.
