By: Shanaz B Syed | 5 Jun 2026 1:36 PM ISTMegaPowerstar Ram Charan’s big-ticket entertainer Peddi, directed by Uppena-fame filmmaker Buchi Babu Sana, released the other day. While many critics hailed the film for Charan’s performance, there was widespread negativity around Janhvi Kapoor’s role, and a lot of feminists and anti-patriarchs are already on a mission, ripping the film apart with their reviews. At this juncture, many are wondering how the film is doing at the box office.
According to the numbers shared by the producers officially, Peddi has collected a worldwide gross of ₹135+ crores on its Day 1, including the Premieres in many cities like Hyderabad and in the USA. This is an expected opening because many big films these days are easily cracking the ₹100 crore Opening Day. However, what is surprising is that, despite Janhvi Kapoor’s presence and huge promotions by Ram Charan and his team, in the North, the film opened to a modest ₹2.5+ crores nett collection there on the first day.
The movie was screened in more than 6500 shows on Day 1, and more than 15 lakhs tickets were sold; the film has surely made a solid debut. However, it needs to be seen how the movie does on Friday, being a working day. Though the film might do well in the weekend in the Telugu states owing to the craze and lack of any other movie in theatres, in the North, there is huge ‘glamorous’ competition from Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur’s Jawani Hai Tho Ishq Hona Hai.
Meanwhile, Peddi should also navigate through the lot of negative talk that is coming up, and should withstand tall to make a huge collection in the end.
