Rathnavelu recently shared several interesting details about the film and explained how the team worked hard to make the movie look natural, emotional, and realistic.
Talking about one important sequence in the film, Rathnavelu said, “My favorite portion in #Peddi is the sequence shot in Delhi. I filmed it without artificial lighting and used film negatives for those scenes. After nearly 17 years, I worked with film negatives again. Even though today’s digital cameras deliver amazing output, we chose film negatives to bring a more real and raw feel to the journey and its realism.”
Rathnavelu also spoke about recreating the old-world feel of Vizianagaram. He revealed that the team carefully designed every location and background detail to match the atmosphere of the town from 40 years ago.
He said, “For #Peddi, we tried to recreate the visual and emotional experience of Vizianagaram from 40 years ago. We created a mood that keeps the audience connected from the first frame to the last. Every element - from the clock tower and streets to the sugar factory, was carefully built to create an authentic world. The hills, the people, and their lifestyle were all designed in a very organic and realistic way.”
The cinematographer also praised director Buchi Babu Sana for bringing the story alive on screen in a powerful manner. According to Rathnavelu, the director managed to deliver much more than what was originally written in the script.
He shared, “After every editing session, Buchi Babu Sana garu would say, ‘Ram Charan garu deserves a National Award, and Rathnavelu garu deserves one too.’ We all had that excitement. Usually, if even 60% of what’s written on paper comes alive on screen, it’s considered a super hit. But Buchi Babu garu brought out 200% on screen.”
Rathnavelu became emotional while speaking about the director’s happiness and passion for cinema. He said watching Buchi Babu enjoy the filmmaking journey gave him great satisfaction as a cinematographer.
The biggest surprise for fans could be Ram Charan’s performance in the movie. Rathnavelu believes this could be one of the best performances in Charan’s career.
He said, “You will witness Ram Charan garu’s finest performance in #Peddi. He delivered an extraordinary act. Just like how he completely became Chitti Babu in Rangasthalam, he fully owns the character of Peddi too. But emotionally, both characters are entirely different.”
He further added that Ram Charan never compromises while acting and always pushes himself to achieve perfection in every shot.
