Fans are eagerly waiting to watch the film on big screens. But before the release, the movie is facing a major issue in the Telugu states.
The exhibitors and theatre owners from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are now raising their voice against the current rental system in theatres. They are asking producers to bring back the percentage system for single-screen theatres.
According to exhibitors, the current rental system is creating huge losses for theatre owners. They believe the percentage system is much better because the theatre owners will get a share based on the movie collections. This system is already working successfully in many other states across India.
Popular distributor Shirish Reddy recently spoke to the media about this issue. He clearly said that exhibitors are not targeting any producer or hero personally. He explained that the demand is only for the survival of the exhibition industry.
Shirish Reddy also said that Telugu cinema has now reached the pan-India level, but theatres in Telugu states are still struggling financially. According to him, exhibitors outside Telugu states are earning better revenues because of the percentage system.
Since Peddi is the next big Telugu release, the movie may directly face the impact of this issue. Exhibitors from Andhra region are expected to meet again on May 14 to discuss the implementation of the percentage system.
The exhibitors also warned that theatres may shut down from May 29 if their demands are not accepted. Similar discussions are already happening in the Nizam area too.
If the issue continues, it could affect the release plans and collections of Peddi. The film is carrying huge expectations among fans and trade circles. Many people in the industry are now hoping that both producers and exhibitors will find a solution soon.
