The director is known for creating strong stories and interesting characters. But the way female characters are written in some of his films has also faced criticism. Now, with RC 17, Sukumar has an important responsibility to handle the heroine's role carefully.
Since Rangasthalam, Sukumar has faced discussions about the portrayal of heroines in his films. While Pushpa 2 received a different kind of response in this regard, questions about female characters have continued to come up in connection with several of his movies from the past except few.
In recent days, there has been more debate on heroine roles. Also the same discussion is there even around films made by his disciples. Buchi Babu Sana's Peddi, starring Ram Charan has become a topic of debate because of the heroine's character. Similarly, Srikanth Odela's film The Paradise has also drawn attention regarding the portrayal of its female characters.
These discussions show how important it has become to write heroine characters with care. In today's social media age, even a small mistake in the way a female character is presented can become a major debate. Audiences are increasingly expecting women characters to have strong roles, proper importance and meaningful contributions to the story.
So, for RC 17, Sukumar has a big responsibility to create a heroine character that stands equally strong alongside Ram Charan's role or at least a dignified role. If any small mistake in writing herione role can lead to big debate. If he gives the heroine's role the same attention as the hero's character, RC 17 could set a positive example.
At the same time, if the film faces similar criticism over its female character then it could affect Sukumar's reputation especially among women audiences. So director more than anything have to keep this in mind.
