Cinema is like a river, sometimes calm, sometimes fierce, but when it surprises, it stays in memory.

Kantara Chapter 1, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, is one such remarkable wave. The film has wowed audiences, collected big numbers, and earned praise from stars like Prabhas, Yash, Jr. NTR, and Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Recently, legendary director Ram Gopal Varma also applauded Shetty while criticizing other Indian filmmakers for lacking dedication and vision.
RGV’s viral post on X (Twitter) on October 3 read, “Kantara Chapter 1 is amazing. After seeing the effort in BGM, sound design, cinematography, production design, VFX… all directors in India should be ashamed. The story is just a bonus. This deserves to be a blockbuster for their hard work.” His statement highlights how technical mastery and creative freedom can elevate a film beyond star power.
Shetty responded with humility: “I am just a film lover, sir. Thank you for your love and support.” The film, released on October 2 in Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, and English, explores events a thousand years before the 2022 Kantara, expanding the folklore-inspired universe.
With Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah adding strength to the cast, the movie combines mythology, action, and emotion seamlessly. RGV’s praise is more than a compliment; it’s a challenge to Indian cinema. Kantara Chapter 1 sets a benchmark, will other filmmakers rise to match it, or stay behind Shetty’s achievement?
