Director Ram Gopal Varma has shared a sharp critique of War 2, starring Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan by criticizing the film for focusing too much on grandeur at the expense of emotional connection.

RGV expressed that certain scenes in the movie were shot with excessive extravagance, which rather than engaging the audience ended up distancing them from the story. According to him, the film relied heavily on top angles and drone shots to create visual appeal. While these shots might look impressive in a trailer, they fail to connect emotionally with the viewers in a theater. "Such visuals might look great in a trailer, but they don’t allow the audience to bond with the story," RGV said.

Drawing a comparison with the films of SS Rajamouli, Varma noted that while Rajamouli also creates grand visuals, they always align with the story's concept and help enhance the narrative. He feels that other filmmakers, in an attempt to add elevation, create massive scenes that, instead of enhancing the plot, make the audience feel disconnected. "When you show unnecessary heaviness, the audience loses trust," he added.

RGV was particularly disappointed with an action sequence in the movie, especially Hrithik Roshan's entry fight. He shared that when he questioned a key person from the film about the scene, the response was that it was added to make the film feel "new." This answer, according to Varma, left him speechless.

In his closing remarks, RGV warned that over-the-top scenes that don’t align with the story can harm the overall narrative. "If a scene doesn’t demand such heaviness, forcing it in will only destroy the narrative," he concluded. He also added humorously that he sometimes feels like doing YouTube-style reviews but refrains to avoid hurting the people he knows.
