Not long ago, the buzz was that Ramayana would be made for ₹1500 crore. But producer Namit Malhotra has changed the narrative completely. In a podcast that’s now making waves, he revealed that the final budget for the two-part film is touching a jaw-dropping ₹4000 crore, nearly $500 million. He made it clear: this isn’t funded by studios or borrowed money. It’s his own investment, and he’s betting big, not just on the story, but on pushing Indian cinema to match Hollywood standards in scale and spectacle.

With Ramayana already in post-production, the scale isn’t just talk. Prime Focus, the Oscar-winning VFX studio headed by Namit himself, has been given an entire year just for visual effects. There’s no hurry, just ambition. Part 1 is planned for Diwali 2026, with Part 2 following the next year. Malhotra promises not just a movie, but a grand visual and emotional experience that will live on long after the credits roll.

Of course, spending ₹4000 crore on a mythological epic isn’t going to escape attention. Namit admits that many producers in Bollywood have questioned his decision. But he says he’s not replying to them with words, content will be the answer. That said, the ghost of Adipurush still lingers. When something as sensitive and iconic as the Ramayana is handled carelessly, the backlash can be brutal. Viewers still remember how the TV version of Ramayan earned love through its soul, not just its visuals.

So now, all eyes are on director Nitesh Tiwari. He’s known for stories grounded in heart and emotion, but this time, the weight is enormous. It’s not just another film, it’s a test of faith, legacy, and ambition, all wrapped in ₹4000 crore. If it works, it’ll change how the world sees Indian cinema. If it stumbles, the fall will be just as epic.
