Varanasi Vs Ramayana: An Interesting Comparison

Ever since the trailer of “Ramayana” was out, while some are calling shots at “Adipurush” and saying that Prabhas was truly missing out on this type of presentation, others are busy comparing the output to how legendary director SS Rajamouli’s “Varanasi” glimpse fared earlier.

While Varanasi is being made on a budget of ₹2000 crores, Ramayana has double the budget of it, but still, the comparisons are inevitable. With some Bollywood folks saying that Varanasi glimpse is looking like AI-generated content in front of Ramayana, let’s have a look at this interesting comparison right now.

1) Wrong to compare: Ramayana is full of only Lord Rama’s story, while Varanasi is a time-travel film that has Ramayana for 20 mins. So the comparison is between a 3-hour film and a 20-minute episode only. Surely it’s a very odd and unwanted comparison, except for the fact that both are big-budget movies. One is fully mythology and the other is just a fictional story with Rajamouli’s imagination.

2) Visual brilliance vs dynamic shots: Ramayana has terrific high-quality visuals for sure, but then, Varanasi’s visuals consist of dynamic camera movement and are more heroic than the other. Varanasi has showcased what it actually takes to be heroic and what it looks like, while Ramayana doesn’t give such a high. But then, Lord Rama’s character itself gives such a high anyway!

3) The Rajamouli Factor: Nitish Tiwari is known for emotional movies only, including Dangal and others. So he can’t bring the Rajamouli factor of weaving a dramatic fight or other things, which is what many feel, and that’s how Varanasi has an upper hand in this aspect. Anyway, only when Ramayana releases, we can actually compare whether Nithish Tiwari matched Rajamouli’s range or not.

All said and done, I hope both Ramayana and Varanasi will live up to the expectations.
