Kaantha is now heading towards its closing run at the box office, and the overall performance is quite poor compared to the expectations set before release.
In Tamil Nadu the film managed around 14 Cr, which is the highest among all regions but still below the level needed for a strong hit in the state. The Telugu states contributed close to 7 Cr, which is considered weak given the wide release and initial buzz.
In Kerala the film earned around 5 Cr, showing only a moderate response. The rest of India added nearly 2 point 75 Cr, reflecting a very limited impact outside the core southern markets. The overseas performance stands at around 8 point 5 Cr, which also falls short of what similar films in this genre usually achieve.
Adding all territories, Kaantha has collected worldwide around 37 Cr, which is far from a successful total. The movie started with decent attention but could not maintain momentum due to mixed response from audiences and critics.
While these might be decent numbers for a genre of film, it must be noted that Dulquer Salmaan has the reputation of delivering back-to-back hundred crore films at the ticket counter. So on that meter, it needs to be said that this film grossly underperformed.
