FWICE Clarifies: Ranveer Singh Not Banned, But..

For the last two days, social media was flooded with one shocking headline: “FWICE bans Ranveer Singh.” The news spread like wildfire after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees issued a notice, in connection to Ranveer’s exit from Don 3 and the subsequent filing of various complaints by producer-director Farhan Akhtar. Excel Entertainment alleged that Ravneer’s exit caused a loss of around ₹45 crore to their company.

But now, FWICE itself has clarified that Ranveer Singh is not actually banned from the film industry. According to FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, what they issued is only a “non-cooperation directive” and not a complete ban. That means industry members are only being advised, not forced, to avoid working with Ranveer. Technically, any producer or technician can still collaborate with him if they want to. However, in the film industry, perception matters more than technical wording. If one union speaks like this, without listening to Farhan, surely that’s not a good thing to do.

What makes this controversy bigger is the timing. #Don3 was supposed to be one of Ranveer’s biggest comeback vehicles. It was expected to re-establish him as a mass commercial star in Bollywood. However, as the film kept getting delayed, Ranveer picked up Dhurandhar and the rest is history. Interestingly, legal experts are also pointing out that FWICE may not even have the authority to enforce such directives in contractual matters. Ranveer’s side reportedly believes that such issues should be settled legally between actor and producer, not through public industry pressure.
