Kantara Case: Dhurandhar Star At Mysore Chamundi Temple
Hero Ranveer Singh, got excited after seeing Rishab Shetty at IFFI event, and imitated Kantara's ‘Panjurli’ spirit act on the stage.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 27 May 2026 12:00 AM ISTWhat many initially brushed aside as a light moment at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa last year has then turned out to be a major legal and emotional controversy in Karnataka.
Hero Ranveer Singh, got excited after seeing Rishab Shetty at IFFI event, and imitated Kantara's ‘Panjurli’ spirit act on the stage. The issue became so sensitive that the Karnataka High Court reportedly directed Ranveer Singh to offer prayers at the famous Chamundi Temple in Mysuru.
Following the court’s orders, the Bollywood star visited the temple today and performed special poojas amid tight media and devotee scrutiny. Currently, the videos are everywhere where Ranveer could be seen offering the prayers in full spirit and fervour.
For many outside Karnataka, Ranveer’s acts might have looked like just another celebrity stage moment. But for coastal Karnataka communities and devotees, Panjurli is not cinema content or pop culture material, but a deeply respected daiva worship tradition connected to Bhoota Kola rituals. That is where the backlash exploded. Several groups accused Ranveer Singh of hurting religious sentiments and disrespecting a sacred cultural belief system.
Now that the star has offered prayers as well at the temple, hope people who got agitated by his acts might get a sense of satisfaction. However, one noticeable thing is that the Dhurandhar star maintained complete silence regarding this controversy, and hasn’t opened his mouth anywhere and anytime.
