By: Priya Chowdhary Nuthalapti | 10 April 2026 5:23 PM ISTBollywood actor Ranveer Singh has decided to submit a new apology in the Karnataka High Court. This comes after objections were raised about his earlier apology related to a controversy involving the film Kantara.
The issue started during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa. At the event, Ranveer Singh copied a popular scene from Kantara. The film’s actor and director Rishab Shetty was also present in the audience at that time.
While praising the movie, Ranveer spoke about a scene where a divine spirit enters the character. However, he referred to the sacred “daiva” as a “ghost.” This did not go well with many people. In Karnataka, daivas are considered holy forest spirits, and people felt his words were disrespectful to their culture and beliefs.
Even though Rishab Shetty smiled during the event, the video quickly spread online and received criticism. Many social media users called Ranveer’s act insensitive. Later, more clips showed that Rishab had even asked him not to imitate such scenes.
After facing backlash, Ranveer Singh gave a public apology. But a complainant was not satisfied and said the apology did not sound sincere. Because of this, the matter reached the Karnataka High Court.
During the recent hearing, Ranveer’s lawyer said that the actor is ready to submit a fresh apology after discussing with the complainant. The aim is to correct his mistake and settle the issue peacefully.
