Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has once again found himself in the middle of an online controversy. During the closing event of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa, his stage act received mixed reactions. While the audience enjoyed his energetic tribute to superstar Rajinikanth, a small part of his performance has now sparked debate on social media.

At the event, Rishab Shetty, the director and lead actor of Kantara Chapter 1, was also present. Ranveer praised the film and spoke about the popular character Chaundi, who is part of the sacred Daiva tradition shown in the movie. While speaking about the character, he casually referred to Chaundi as a “female ghost” and then mimicked her expression on stage. He crossed his eyes, stuck out his tongue, and performed his famous loud scream. Rishab Shetty was seen laughing at the moment.

Ranveer also joked, asking the audience whether they wanted to see him in Kantara 3, pointing towards Rishab Shetty and making the crowd cheer. However, when the video from the event went viral, many social media users felt the act was hurtful. They said Ranveer’s expression was insensitive toward Tulunadu’s Daiva practices. Several people wrote that such traditions should not be used for comedy or stage jokes. Some also questioned why Rishab Shetty laughed at the act instead of correcting Ranveer. So far, Ranveer Singh and Rishab Shetty have not given any official statement about the incident.
