A Heroine And Villain Out From Ram’s Directorial
Gone are the days when , just for the sake of ‘branding’ and ‘padding’, some popular heroines and villains will be roped in a movie.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 16 Jun 2026 5:05 PM ISTGone are the days when , just for the sake of ‘branding’ and ‘padding’, some popular heroines and villains will be roped in a movie. When OTTs paid huge monnies, surely roping in heroines with a ₹4 crore budget and villains with ₹10 crore budget is something very much affordable for Tollywood. But it looks like the film being directed by Ram Pothineni, #RaPo23, is already taking measures to tackle the OTT heat now.
Buzz has it that both Srinidhi Shetty and SJ Suryah are not likely to join the sets of Ram Pothineni’s next, which is directed by the hero himself. While SJ Suryah is demanding ₹8 crores, Srinidhi is asking for around ₹3 crores, which the hero (whose brother is the producer of the movie) feels is too much as an investment in current times. They are likely to get Kayadu Lohar or Samyuktha Menon as the leading lady, as per the buzz doing rounds.
Though some of Ram Pothineni’s films like Andhra King Taluka have got a good talk on the First Day, somehow that has never translated into commercial success at the box office. Now that Ram is directing a movie which is being produced by his brother, surely he has to make sure that they will not lose a single penny even when the film fails to do its thing at the box office.
Only with such cost-effective planning will the film industry survive now, because OTT prices are going down and box office revenues are coming down; the only way to make profits and minimise losses is to cut down the making costs.
