For a long time, now, there has been a lot of debate and discussion happening about the credibility of the censorship board in India.
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 July 2026 6:57 PM ISTFor a long time, now, there has been a lot of debate and discussion happening about the credibility of the censorship board in India. Many people are starting to question the academic strength of these individuals who happen to censor films these days.
This point was brought up by controversial film maker, Ram Gopal Varma, who questioned the ideological and practical experience of these members of this censor board.
In his elaborate message on social media RGV wrote “Censoring Films Actually is an INSULT to the AUDIENCES In an era of smartphones, global streaming, and access to infinite information, to pretend that a government appointed committee (What is the qualification of its members ?) can shield adults from the film makers perspective of any truth is not only outdated, but it’s also idiotic
Here’s the fundamental hypocrisy.”
RGV has a strong point to make as he questioned the intellectual capability of these individuals who censor the films and how they can decide what Content is good or what content is bad for the 140 crore people in India.
But it must be kept in mind that there are certain parameters that must be followed when displaying films and theatres, which are consumed by crores of Indian Indians.
Our side of the story is that the board must be enhanced with people who have actual knowledge of filmmaking and can validate their choices on the big screen. People from the cinema background who have actual idea of filmmaking must be incorporated into the censor board instead of generic people who have very little idea of this craft.
It is not logical to say that the entire censor board must be removed from its position, but instead, it can be optimised with more skilled people who have actual idea of filmmaking being given respectful positions.
