Last week, a small-budget film with almost a new cast except for the hero and heroine was released. Despite getting poor reviews from critics, the film worked in theatres and made some money for the investors. At the same time, the film also made a deal with Netflix for the OTT rights as well. Guess what, what worked in the film’s favour, actually?

We are talking about the movie “Romanchakam”, which was produced by ace director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Though the reviews are poor around the flick, the main USP of the film is nothing, but it’s Sandeep Vanga’s first production venture where he’s not the director. That craze worked big time, and the film made good money in the first weekend, which is revealed by the makers themselves. Here’s the catch, though.

Apparently, the power of popularity works only for the first time. This being Vanga’s maiden production where he didn’t direct, surely the audience wanted to see what he’s up to. That’s the reason the Sumanth Prabhas and Anantika Sanilkumar starrer got attention from the public. However, if the next venture gets similar negative talk on Day 1, surely it wouldn’t get that much collection, as the popularity mantra wouldn’t work then.
