After making an impressive entrance with 'Rajavaaru Raanigaru' and following it up with 'SR Kalyanamandapam', Kiran Abbavaram got back-to-back offers. Sadly, none of them ended up being successful and he was trolled heavily. 'Rules Ranjann' became a very crucial film in his career. Directed by Rathinam Krishna who made 'Nee Manasu Naaku Telusu' and 'Oxygen' in the past, AM Ratnam too linked to this project as it is directed by his son. With the 'Sammohanuda' song becoming a huge hit, the expectations have escalated on the movie. Let us see how the movie turned out.

Story:

Manoranjan (Kiran Abbavaram) is a software employee in Mumbai. He grows up in an orthodox manner and carries himself very decently in the workplace as well. He stays away from alcohol and girls in order to stay disciplined. Sana (Neha Shetty) enters the life of Manoranjan like a drizzle in the desert. Ranjan loves her from his college days but fails to express it to Sana. Sana spends a day completely with Ranjan and they get close to each other. But with Sana not finding a job, she returns back to her place. Ranjan is madly in love with her and leaves Mumbai to find her. Will he meet Sana? What are the hurdles they will be facing in order to win their love? All these questions will be answered in the movie.

Analysis:

Hero is a strict guy who doesn't forgive anyone even if they make a small mistake. He can't tolerate if something wrong happens in his society as well. Such a person goes through retrospection when a beggar calls him for not having a life except for work and home. Exactly, the hero finds his college crush in Mumbai and feelings kick in immediately. The person who follows rules all the time decides to miss the office for a day and takes her to an interview. He even takes her to a pub by sidelining all his principles. Heroine who claims to be a non-alcoholic, blurts out all brand names and drinks one peg after another. He even shares a bed with the heroine. Just with this, the heroine gets emotional and says to the hero that he gave her a magical experience. Even the hero talks about it endlessly. When the audience are searching for a love story in all this, the hero and heroine talk as if their love story is nothing short of a 'Titanic' which blows everyone's minds.

Keeping the love story aside, if we look at the comedy, it is quite shambolic. Vennela Kishore as the capacity to make people laugh even in a disaster movie but he fails to even bring out a single chuckle which explains a lot. The unbearable comedy which the director made him do is very bad. Hyper Aadi seems to have used his unused jokes from Jabardasth in this movie. We can't say if what Viva Harsha and Sudarshan did can be called as comedy. Abhimanyu Singh was made to do something very very silly which talks a lot about the taste of the director.

We get an idea of the shallowness in the 'Rules Ranjann' script right from the office episodes in Mumbai. We imagine something from the character of 'Rules Ranjann' but there is quite a contrast between how he started the hero's character and how the director ended it. The 'Rules' in 'Rules Ranjann' go away completely as soon as the heroin enters. The hero and heroine talk about following each other on social media but as soon as the heroine gets on the train, the hero starts missing her as if we are in the 80s. Hero can find out the whereabouts of the heroine using social media but he meets various people on his way and struggles a lot to find the heroine. After meeting her finally, he takes her to the bar and gets her drunk. What happens after that is a test to the audience's patience levels. The inconsistency in the characters, the bad comedy and the unending during makes the film tough to sit through. Except for 'Sammohanuda' there is no high point in the movie which explains a lot.

Performances:

Kiran Abbavaram did not change at all. His acting, expressions and body language looked a bit unique at first but he is repeating the same Rayalaseema dialect in every movie of his. They are boring the people and everything in 'Rules Ranjann' when it comes to Kiran Abbavaram is quite routine. The Ranjan character fails to create an impact due to his regular acting. Neha Shetty impressed with her glamour. She stole the hearts of youth with 'Sammohanuda' song and looked gorgeous throughout. She did not have a lot of scope for acting and 'Rules Ranjann' is one of the very few films where Vennela Kishore failed to make us laugh. Aadi did a regular job of uttering Jabardasth punches. Sudarshan too failed to make the people laugh. Ajay, Abhimanyu Singh, Goparaju Ramana, Subbaraju and other noted artists did not get a chance to showcase their prowess.

Technicians:

The one plus in 'Rules Ranjann' is the songs. 'Sammohanuda' song showcased the potential of Amreesh. The song and the visuals are equally appealing. The rest of the songs are okay too but the background score has nothing ordinary. Dulip Kumar's cinematography is fine and the production values are decent as well. Writer-director Jyothi Krishna made two failures before but they are far better compared to what he made now after changing his name to 'Rathinam Krishna'. It looks like he forgot even the basics like story, screenplay and direction as well. He failed to impress even in one aspect.

Verdict: 'Rules Ranjann' - A Big Headache!
