Once upon a time, heroines in cinema silently accepted the fact that heroes would pocket massive paychecks while they settled for much less. But those days are long gone. Today’s top heroines are not only matching but even surpassing their male counterparts in remuneration especially when they wear multiple hats like Alia Bhatt co-producing Jigra or Kriti Sanon backing Do Patti. In South cinema too, the race for the highest-paid heroine is heating up, and the latest buzz puts Sai Pallavi ahead of none other than Lady Superstar Nayanthara.

Nayanthara, who reportedly charged around Rs. 12 crores for her Bollywood debut Jawan, once held the crown as South India’s highest-paid actress. However, Sai Pallavi, riding high on a string of successful films, is now said to have crossed that milestone. Her back-to-back hits like Amaran with Sivakarthikeyan and Thandel with Naga Chaitanya have elevated her market value tremendously. Currently, she’s playing Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Yash a role that reportedly fetched her a staggering Rs. 15 crores just for the first part.

If these numbers hold true, Sai Pallavi has indeed dethroned Nayanthara as the highest-paid actress in the South. However, Nayanthara’s story is far from over. Beyond acting, she’s also a savvy producer, entrepreneur, and brand owner meaning her income streams flow from multiple directions. While Sai Pallavi’s acting paycheck may have broken a record, Nayanthara’s empire still gives her the power to bounce back anytime.

Ultimately, this healthy competition only proves one thing South Indian cinema’s leading ladies are rewriting the pay scale, and both Nayanthara and Sai Pallavi are setting benchmarks for the next generation to chase. Whether this rumor holds true or not, one thing is certain: the spotlight on female stars’ remuneration is only going to shine brighter from here.
