Cinema is a bridge connecting cultures, languages, and hearts. Popular Bollywood director Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara became one such bridge, creating a wave of attention beyond box office numbers India-wide. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film turned into a sensational blockbuster at the theatre. At FICCI Frames 2025, Mohit revealed that even Karan Johar personally thanked him for reviving the spirit of classic Hindi cinema.

Mohit said that after the release, several senior South directors called to appreciate his work. “Karan told me it has been years since Bollywood films got such praise from them,” he said. “We often separate South and Bollywood films, but cinema should not be divided like that. I admire many filmmakers from across industries, and their appreciation meant a lot.” This unexpected recognition sparked talks about respect and unity in Indian cinema.

For Mohit, Saiyaara was personal. “I don’t want the dust to settle,” he said. “Making this film was freeing. I didn’t need big names to make it work. It was about telling the story honestly.”

Mohit also spoke about his filmmaking approach, valuing trust and vision over profit. “I need producers who believe in my vision. That makes all the difference,” he said, crediting Yash Raj Films CEO Akshay Wadhwani for his support. Saiyaara stands as proof that cinema can bring filmmakers together, cross boundaries, and change perspectives.
