Only One Tollywood Sequel Has Massive Potential; It's Not What You Think

When a film becomes successful, producers often look at the possibility of continuing the story with another part. However, not every successful movie automatically creates excitement for a sequel. The real test is whether audiences are eager to return to that world again.
One recent example is They Call Him OG. The film managed to achieve overall breakeven status at the box office, which means it recovered its investment. While this is a positive result, the movie was not a major hit across all territories. Because of this, a sequel may not add much new market value or attract a significantly larger audience than the first film. The existing fan base could support it, but the growth potential appears limited.
Salaar presents a very different story. During its theatrical run, the film did not achieve breakeven and finished with an above-average performance. However, everything changed after its digital release. The movie gained massive popularity among audiences on streaming platforms. Many viewers who missed it in theatres discovered and appreciated it later. As a result, the film's fan base has grown considerably. If a sequel is released, there is a strong chance that curiosity and excitement will bring large crowds to cinemas. The story's unfinished elements also create anticipation for what comes next.
Devara remains the most interesting case. The film performed exceptionally well in the Telugu states and was also reported to have done well in North India. Despite its commercial success, the movie has not created a strong demand for a sequel. Usually, when a blockbuster develops a large and passionate following, filmmakers quickly move forward with the next chapter. The response to Pushpa is a good example of this trend. In the case of Devara, however, the sequel buzz appears limited, suggesting that even the makers may be carefully evaluating audience interest.
Looking at the current situation, Salaar stands out as the sequel with the strongest potential. Its growing popularity, expanding fan base, and unresolved storyline make it the project most likely to benefit from a follow-up film.
