Sankranthi is one of the biggest festival seasons for movies in the Telugu states. Every year, many big Telugu films try to release during this holiday period. But the number of theatres is limited. Because of this, there is always competition among filmmakers for screens. If Tamil films also enter the race, the situation can become even more difficult for Telugu films.

A similar situation happened a few years ago with Vijay’s Varasudu. The film was produced by Dil Raju and was planned for a Sankranthi release. At that time, several big Telugu hero films were also coming to theatres. This led to a major discussion about theatre allocation. Many Telugu movie lovers questioned how a dubbed Tamil film could get theatres when Telugu films themselves were competing for screens.

Now, a similar situation could happen for Sankranthi 2027.

According to reports, legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam is planning to release his upcoming romantic entertainer during the Sankranthi 2027 holiday season. The film has Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. The movie is currently being shot, and the team is working without major breaks to complete the project.

The film is being produced by Mani Ratnam’s own Madras Talkies. Reports say that the movie is being made on a controlled budget and with fewer working days. The makers are expected to officially announce the release date after the shooting is completed.

The important point is that Sankranthi 2027 is already expected to have several major releases. If Mani Ratnam’s film is also released in Telugu, it could increase the pressure on theatre owners and distributors.

Mani Ratnam is a respected filmmaker with a strong name among Telugu audiences. Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi also have a good following in Telugu. So, the film cannot be ignored if it gets a Telugu release.

At the same time, the final theatre situation will depend on the number of Telugu releases, their release dates and the business plans of distributors.

For now, Mani Ratnam entering the Sankranthi race has certainly made the 2027 festival season more interesting. If the film comes to Telugu theatres, the competition for screens could become a major talking point once again.
