Like a kite catching the Sankranthi wind, Telugu cinema seems to be having its moment in the sun. Anil Ravipudi’s Sankranthiki Vastunnam, starring Vicotyr Venkatesh, has made it to the Indian Panorama category at the 56th International Film Festival of India. It’s a proud moment for the whole team and a nice boost for Telugu audiences who love seeing their stories go beyond local screens.

In the same list sits Mohanlal’s Thudarum, keeping the South flag flying strong. Young director Yadu Vamsi has also found his spot in the Best Debut Director category for Committee Kurrollu. That one’s a small-town story that somehow made its way to the big stage. The festival kicks off in Goa on the 20th, and this year’s lineup already feels like a mixed platter of freshness and fame.

Meanwhile, Amaran, the film backed by Kamal Haasan and starring Siva Karthikeyan with Sai Pallavi, has grabbed the Golden Peacock nomination. It’s based on the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, and it’s set to open the Indian Panorama section. The team’s obviously thrilled; this one’s the kind of nod that turns heads internationally.
