Sankranti Movie Clash Starts One Year Early in Tollywood

Sankranti is the biggest festival season for the Telugu film industry. Every year, many heroes and producers want to release their movies during this time. Because of this, competition for release dates starts very early. Producers often announce dates months in advance to secure theatres.

This year, five straight Telugu movies were released during the Sankranti season. However, industry experts say that only three or four films can comfortably survive in the Sankranti window. When more films release together, there are not enough screens for everyone. Even movies with good content suffer because they do not get enough theatres or shows. As a result, collections drop and producers face losses.

The same situation happened this Pongal season. With five heroes arriving at the same time, some films failed to get proper screen space. This caused financial losses to a few producers. Many people in the industry feel that some of these films would have performed better if they had released later, without heavy competition.

Even though this year’s Sankranti season is not fully over, discussions about next year’s Sankranti have already started. What is surprising is that producers are again planning multiple big releases for the same festival, despite knowing the risks. Some films that are being talked about for Sankranti 2027 have not even started shooting yet.

According to industry talk, nearly six films are already aiming for the next Sankranti season. These include a big project starring Chiranjeevi and directed by Bobby, a film featuring Teja Sajja produced by People Media Factory, and another movie starring Sharwanand directed by Srinu Vaitla. A major Tamil project starring Rajinikanth and produced by Kamal Haasan is also in the race. Apart from these, a film starring Venkatesh and directed by Anil Ravipudi, along with another movie from Sithara Entertainments, are also said to be targeting the same season.
