After years of speculation and shifting shortlists, the face behind the much-awaited Sourav Ganguly biopic has finally been confirmed. It's not Ranveer, not Ayushmann but Rajkummar Rao who’s officially stepping into the shoes of the iconic former Indian cricket captain. The announcement may not have come with a big teaser or flashy poster, but Rajkummar himself confirmed the news in a recent interview with a national media outlet.

Calling the role both a challenge and an honor, Rajkummar admitted he’s slightly nervous about portraying such a towering sports personality. "It’s a big responsibility," he said, while also expressing excitement about diving into Ganguly’s story. Given the actor’s proven skill in biographical roles, fans are already expecting a performance rooted in realism and intensity.

Language won’t be a barrier either. Ganguly, being a proud Bengali, was expected to be portrayed authentically, and Rajkummar, through his wife Patralekha (a Bengali herself), is said to have already picked up the nuances of the language. That detail might seem minor, but it plays a big role in capturing the essence of ‘Dada’ on screen.

Shooting is expected to begin in January 2026, with a planned release in December the same year.
