Common Man’s Take: Why These Nibba-Nibbi Movies?

Recently, certain types of stories have been churned out in the name of high school and intermediate romance. Of them, the likes of Little Hearts might have clicked, but dishing out films in the same genre, with cringeworthy comedy, is what shocks the audience, too. Many regular film lovers are upset with these storylines, according to the ground reports.

‘Court’ is a brilliant film, explaining a social issue, a legally complicated case, and a common man’s ordeal. But the same couple came up with ‘Band Melam’, a nonsensical love story that makes no sense. Then came Tamil films like ‘With Love’, which didn’t run in Telugu, though it clicked in Tamil. The film deals with the story of school-aged, school-going folks, which is mostly cringeworthy stuff. The hero, who directed a terrific emotional film like ‘Tourist Family’, came up with this cringeworthy comedy love story.

Now, movies like Youth, Happy Raj, and upcoming films like Anakapalli are all dealing with school-age comedies of 10th and Intermediate students. The common audience is asking why these ‘nibba nibbi’ types of movies are getting out, and why filmmakers are writing those stories. Do they make any sense in the first place?

There are times when movies like ‘Premiste’ have come out earlier, and recently ‘Baby’ also came out, which have blended the high-school and early college romance with some societal stuff and carved out a lovely musical treat as well as shocking climax-driven twists. Those movies have clicked out big time, but focusing only on nibba-nibbi elements is really concerning.
