Theatre owners say that running theatres with the old rental system is becoming very difficult now. Because of this, Telangana Exhibitors Association recently conducted a press meet in Hyderabad. They requested the industry to support a full percentage sharing system for single screen theatres.
During the meeting, producer Sirish Reddy and producer Suniel Narang spoke about the problems faced by exhibitors. They said theatres are struggling to survive in the present situation. According to exhibitors, audiences are changing and movies are not running for many weeks like before.
Sirish Reddy said, "We are not speaking against any producer or any movie. We are only talking about the survival of exhibitors." He also assured audiences that ticket prices in single screen theatres will not increase in the future. He said, "Even if the government gives permission, we are not planning to increase ticket rates."
The exhibitors explained that multiplexes are already following the percentage sharing system and getting benefits from it. But many single screen theatres in Telugu states are still following the old rental model. They believe the percentage system will help both producers and theatre owners share profits and risks equally.
Speaking at the event, Sirish Reddy also shared an interesting incident. He said, "Earlier, one producer told us to close theatres if they were not working well. Now that producer is not even in the industry." His comments became a hot topic in Tollywood circles.
Producer Suniel Narang also spoke about the unfair earnings for theatres. He said one recent midnight show sold tickets for very high prices, but the theatre received only a very small amount from the collection. According to him, exhibitors are finding it hard to survive under such conditions.
