The way movies are performing at the box office has changed a lot. Earlier, hero stardom and movie reviews played a major role in deciding the first weekend collections. If a big hero had a film, fans would come to theatres in large numbers. At the same time, good reviews from popular websites could encourage more people to watch a movie.

But now, social media has become a major factor in deciding the result of a film.

Platforms like Instagram and X (Twitter) are now creating the first impression about a movie. Within a few hours of a film's release, audiences start sharing their opinions, reaction videos, memes and reviews. This talk can quickly spread to thousands or even millions of people.

If a movie gets negative talk on social media, it can seriously affect its box office journey. Sometimes, even a decent or good film can struggle because the negative opinion spreads very fast. Many people may decide not to watch the movie after seeing negative posts and comments.

On the other hand, positive social media talk can help a movie get strong collections. Sometimes, the story may not be very special, but if the film creates excitement online, more people may visit theatres. The positive buzz can make the movie look like a must-watch.

Interestingly, the opinion can change later. A film that performs poorly in theatres may receive appreciation after it arrives on OTT. Some viewers may say that the movie was underrated and deserved more attention in theatres.

Similarly, a film that gets huge collections because of strong social media hype may later be called overrated by audiences after watching it on OTT.

This shows how powerful social media has become in the film industry. Hero stardom and professional reviews still matter, but audience discussions on Instagram and X can strongly influence the early box office response.
