DYK Mandaadi Actor Once Earned Just Rs 20 Per Day?

Tamil actor Soori is now known for playing powerful lead roles, but his journey in the film industry was not easy. The actor, who is currently receiving attention for his latest film Mandaadi alongside Suhas, once earned only Rs 20 per day while doing small jobs in Tiruppur.

Soori's early life was very different from his present success. In 1993, he worked as a daily wage worker in Tiruppur. He earned around Rs 20 every day, which gave him about Rs 140 for a week. He reportedly sent nearly half of his weekly earnings to his family.

His financial situation was so difficult that even buying a Rs 1.25 coconut bun was sometimes not possible. Instead, he would have tea and continue with his day. These struggles later became an important part of the story of his rise in cinema.

Soori entered the film industry in the late 1990s and spent several years doing small and supporting roles. He also worked as a painter to support himself. For a long time, audiences noticed him only in brief appearances.

His career changed after Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu released in 2009. His comic performance in the film became popular, and he earned the nickname "Parotta Soori." However, it took many more years for him to get a major opportunity as a lead actor.

Soori has also spoken about facing difficult situations on film sets during his struggling days. Some of his experiences were humiliating, but he continued working and waiting for better opportunities.

The biggest turning point came when director Vetrimaaran selected him for Viduthalai Part 1. Soori played Constable Kumaresan and showed audiences a completely different side of his acting. The film brought him recognition as a serious performer rather than only a comedian.

He later continued as a lead actor in films such as Viduthalai Part 2 and Garudan. His films also achieved strong box-office numbers, with several reportedly crossing the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide.

Now, Soori is attracting attention in Telugu as well with Mandaadi, which stars Suhas and Mahima Nambiar. The film has brought more visibility to the Tamil actor among Telugu audiences.
