Sophie Choudry, who once lit up Telugu screens with the song London Babu in 1: Nenokkadine, has now taken aim at a different kind of performance one happening off the court. In a sharp Instagram post, she called out the growing number of Indian celebrities and influencers attending Wimbledon just for visibility. Her message was clear: this isn’t a runway, it’s a tennis tournament.

She’s not new to the sport. Sophie has followed tennis closely for over three decades, and her post reflected genuine disappointment. She spoke about growing up watching legends like Sampras and Agassi, later becoming a fan of Nadal and Alcaraz. She even remembered skipping social plans to catch key matches and watching Martina Navratilova play her final Wimbledon.

What bothers her now is seeing people with no real interest in the game using it for social media content. Sophie pointed out how many influencers appear at Wimbledon only to post a photo, without knowing the players or the match stakes. “They have zero clue or interest in the game,” she wrote, adding that the event is slowly turning into a second Cannes.

Her comments land at a time when Bollywood celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Preity Zinta were seen at this year’s matches. While some fans defended the glam presence, Sophie’s post sparked a broader conversation about what happens when sporting events become content hubs. For her, the game deserves better than being reduced to a backdrop.
