JioHotstar Confirms Bold ₹4,000 Crore South Expansion Plan External

Ever since acquiring Hotstar and renaming it as JioHotstar, the Reliance-backed OTT platform has not slowed down. Already the top OTT platform in terms of subscriptions in India, has not only brought rights to many sports events, top films and web series, they are bankrolling lots of big projects too. And now, they want to focus more on South India, where the OTT wave is literally sweeping theatres off their revenues.

Reports are doing rounds that JioHotstar will be investing more than ₹4000 crores to cover the content generation part in the South of India, as they would be producing films, series and also develop talent through writing rooms and workshops. All this funding will be going into producing lots of content in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada originals. JioHotsar is also said to have focused on young VFX teams, to make sure they deliver cutting-edge CGI and graphics for their upcoming projects.

Undoubtedly, after the superior success of South Indian movies like KGF, Pushpa, Kantara and other movies, the whole of India is looking towards South Cinema for their entertainment and love of movies. Living in that moment, it looks like JioHotstar has taken the first big leap of pouring in such a big investment. Hope good cinema thrives and the once regional films start to take the world by storm.
