It’s been a tense few weeks in Kollywood, and now, the storm seems to be settling, at least for now. Actor Sriram, known as Srikanth in Tamil cinema, finally walked out of Puljal jail after being granted bail by the Chennai High Court. His arrest on June 23 in a dr*ug case sent shockwaves across the industry. A few days later, actor Krishna was also caught in the same web. Both had earlier been denied bail by the Narcotics Control Division court, but after approaching the High Court, they secured conditional release.

Srikanth’s confession played a big part in the bail hearing. In court, he admitted to using dr*ugs and explained how he got caught up in the spiral. According to his statement, it was former AIADMK leader Prasad who introduced him to cocaine during the filming of Theengirai. He also claimed that Prasad owed him Rs. 10 lakh for the project and instead of money, offered him dru*gs. “I made a mistake,” Srikanth told the court, “but I need to take care of my son.”

Once the High Court approved the bail, copies of the order were submitted to the jail authorities. After completing the formalities, both Srikanth and Krishna were released. While the legal process has offered them temporary relief, the spotlight on their arrest has already stirred discussions in the Tamil film industry about accountability and addiction in the celebrity circle.

There were no grand statements or emotional thank-yous at the gate. Srikanth walked out quietly, perhaps with relief, maybe with regret. But one thing’s clear: this episode has left a mark. Whether it turns into a wake-up call or fades as just another scandal depends entirely on what they do next. For now, Srikanth is out, but the eyes are still watching.
